Songs Around the Fire
You know all those camp songs your kids and youth come home singing after summer camp at John Knox Ranch like “Blindman”, I’m a Little Cookie and Herman the Worm?

You know how you wish you and they could hear them over and over again?

Well, now you can!

The CD “Songs Around the Fire” is available through the Resource Center for $20.00.
Checks can be made payable to Mission Presbytery Outdoor Ministries.
Come by the Resource Center, pick up a CD and surprise your camper with this CD for Valentine’s Day.

Taizé Service at First Presbyterian Church
What is Taizé (pronounced “teh-záy”)? Come and see on Sunday, February 16, 2003 at 6:00 pm in the fellowship hall.

This is a new worship service our Worship Committee has been planning over the last several weeks.

A Taizé service offers meditative music, prayers, and time for reflection. Silence is one of the main components of this service for worshippers who are seeking peace, harmony, and spiritual connection through the simple, candle-lit service.

During this 45-minute service, we will sing uncomplicated, repetitive songs, light candles, hear scripture, pray and mediate, following a simple order of worship. There is no sermon or prepared message in traditional Taizé services. The service seeks to speak to each person’s spiritual needs through music, scripture readings, prayer, and meditation.

A Swiss Protestant named Brother Roger started the model for this unique, spiritually uplifting service after World War II in the burgundy region of France. His intention was to reconcile Christians who had been divided by centuries of theological and doctrinal conflict. Today, the small French village of Taizé where Brother Roger held the first service still attracts Christians from around the world.

Come, invite your friends, and join with your sisters and brothers, for this worship of peace, harmony, silence, and meditation.

About Our Committee
The Fellowship Committee promotes and provides opportunities to interact socially and simply enjoy the company of our church family. Our activities most often include some form of “breaking bread together.”
The Committee has three goals for 2003.
Increasing the membership of the committee, publicizing activities and menus, and providing reception for those leaving our congregation.
If “Serving” is high on your list of spiritual gifts, or if you enjoy providing opportunities for Christian fellowship, this is the committee for you! Call the church office if you would like to volunteer and let us know.

It's Cooking Time
Earlier this year, the Women of the Church voted to produce and publish a cookbook.

Since Presbyterians love to eat, we have the advantage of having many very good recipes within our families.

We wish to publish these recipes for all of us to enjoy. If you are one of our Winter Guests, you are invited to participate. Your recipes will help provide us with ties throughout the United States and Foreign Countries.

It is also a good time to get to know others within the church.

Our organizational meeting is planned for an hour on Monday, January 27, 2003 at 5:00 p.m. in the church parlor.

We will have snacks (of course, this is about food.)

If you would like to be a part of the "Cookook Team" but can't attend the meeting, please call the First Presbyterian Church office. Remember, there is always something each one of us can do.
