U-Turn
Interesting concept the U-Turn. You’re cruising along when it hits you, “Hey what am I doing, this isn’t right!”

The theme of this year’s Mid Winter Youth Retreat at Mo Ranch was “U-Turn.” It’s a theme that adults and youth alike could relate to. After all each of us has had a U-Turn moment…or two. It’s that point in your life when you stop and realize you need to make a change. God is at work in those circumstances, lining things up so we see what wasn’t clear to us before. The scripture we studied was Acts 9:1-19. It’s the story of Paul on the road to Damascus. Paul had a U-Turn experience. As we learned working in groups, Paul’s encounter with Jesus influenced not only his life, but the lives of those around him.

Adults and youth at Mo had their own stories to share but Saturday night presented itself as a major turning point for us all. We started out the evening with a dance followed by Worship. We all kicked up our heels at the dance; the kids had gotten comfortable with each other and everyone was out on the dance floor at one time or another. When it was time for Worship the MPT’s (Mid Winter Planning Team High Schoolers) told of experiences in which God woke them up to sense the trouble they were heading toward. Prayers were whispered and songs were sung before the kids were given the chance to pray with someone or go to a “prayer wall” and write their concerns on a large sheet of butcher paper. It was amazing to see the worries and problems that were disclosed. I couldn’t help but get misty eyed as I watched the hordes of kids wait in line to write down what they couldn’t speak of.

After Worship, our group spent some time at the cross on the hill. It was cold and drizzly but the presence of God was among us. I don’t know how many U-Turns were made that night but I do know this, God’s spirit surrounded us and we were blessed.
