WORSHIP COMMITTEE PLANS FOR FALL 2003, SPRING 2004
The Worship Committee met May 27 in a two-hour session to outline plans for the coming year. After reviewing their mission statement, they paced through the liturgical year, scheduling Sunday worship, Taize services, youth Sundays, and special holiday events in the life of the congregation.
Other topics of interest were communion, ushering and greeting arrangements, the children’s choir, and the role of youth in regular services.
Special events during the coming year include the photographer’s visit in December for family Christmas pictures, Thursday Noel programs, the Kirken of the Tartans, and an Easter play.
Ten members of the Worship Committee and three staff persons were present. They enjoyed a delicious supper provided by Chairwoman Anna Bohart.

Memories of Days Past
Vacation Bible School is among us. As Andrea and I have prepared for this event I've "caught the spirit" of VBS past, present, and future. It's been interesting to hear folks like John Miller and Barbara Montemayor reflect on their memories of VBS in this church. Preparing for it is like opening up an old photo album or going into the attic and rummaging through artifacts of another time. We all have remembrances of it in our past. I can hear the laughter and smell the Elmers glue we used on the chickens we made out of corn and beans. That was at First Baptist church in Benton, Arkansas. I remember one year we made lanterns out of tuna cans painted black with a hurricane globe. I thought that lantern was the greatest thing I'd ever seen and I loved Vacation Bible School.
It was very different from Sunday School, fun and happy, full of summertime attitudes. And the spirit of the Lord was among us. And so it is again. My lantern from back then has come full circle.
The theme of Lighthouse Kids; lanterns, candles and God's ever present light will permeate our event. Thanks be to God.
