YOUTH GROUP ROUNDUP Both the Senior High and Junior High youth groups did not meet this past Sunday due to the Labor Day weekend.
However, they will resume their regularly scheduled meetings this coming Sunday, September 11. The Junior Highs commence at 4:30 p.m. followed by the Senior Highs at 6 p.m.
When they do return, they will begin planning for Youth Sunday, scheduled this year for October 16.
Youth Sunday is a special event in the life of our church because the Worship Service that day is led solely by the youth. This includes singing, liturgy, the offering and the sermon.
Also this coming Sunday, the youth will begin making preparations for their trip to Main Event at John Knox which is slated for the weekend of September 30-October 2.
Dinner assignments were mailed out recently to parents whose children are attending the Sunday night youth meetings on a regular basis. If your child is participating, but you did not receive a copy of the dinner assignments, please talk to Interim Youth Director Michael Pullen or call him at 630-2423.

WWF No, it’s not the World Wrestling Federation, though it does involve people with common interests gathering together to participate in and benefit from other peoples’ struggles. It’s “Wednesdays with Friends” and it begins on September 21. We’ve had the First Wednesday dinners for some time now. This is a twist on that idea. We will still have dinner but we’re hiring a cook so you won’t have to spend time in the kitchen cooking or cleaning. Dinner will be served continually from 5:30-6:30 pm to meet the needs of people involved in different activities at different times. We will provide menus for you as to the weekly meal in each Sunday bulletin beginning September 11. We also want to offer classes for different age groups and interest levels. Plans are underway for children’s activities. Details will be available on that by the start date. For adults we will offer a class called “Cinema Study of Old Testament Folk” which will examine several complex and interesting personalities. The class will incorporate a film series with Biblical references to get a present day glimpse of such familiar characters as Moses, David, Joseph, and Esther. Shirley Pippin will facilitate the class. There will also be a book study that I will lead titled “Becoming a Blessed Church.” We will peruse our way through Graham Standish’s book in about 8 weeks. Confirmation classes will also be on Wednesday evenings as well as adult choir practice. To sign up for a class fill out the form in this newsletter or look for one in the bulletin on the next two Sundays. The Christian Education Calling has created the WWF and we hope that you’ll find something that fits your fancy and if you don’t let me know. I’m always open to your comments and suggestions. by Rebecca Villarreal, DCE

HELP! HELP! HELP! The Congregational Care Committee is looking for help in taking flowers to members of first Presbyterian Church who are Shut-Ins or in Nursing home, etc. Please pray and meditate about helping. If enough volunteers sign up we can split the time of each helper so that not one person is doing it any length of time. If you are interested in helping please contact Carol Crosby.
